Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has signed legislation to expand insurance coverage for life saving treatments.
One new law requires insurance companies to cover office visits and treatment for tick-borne diseases like Lyme Disease.
The signing makes Illinois the first state to require insurance companies to provide coverage of epi-pens for children with severe allergies.
Pritzker said at a bill signing that the cost of the pens has risen by more than 400 percent over the last decade.
The Governor says about two children per classroom have some sort of food allergy.
Pritzker also spoke about Lyme Disease and its issues.
The new law on Lyme Disease treatment coverage takes effect immediately while the epi-pen law on coverage takes effect January 1, 2020.
