Two were injured in a three vehicle crash involving a semi-truck on Friday in Yorkville. Yorkville police say a semi being driven by 56-year-old Juan Alvardo, of Aurora, rear-ended a vehicle at S. Bridge Street at Fountainview Drive. The driver of that vehicle, 37-year-old Alfredo Rubio of Chicago, was taken to Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora. Alvardo is said to have continued through the intersection to make a left turn when he hit a second vehicle head-on. The driver of that vehicle, 66-year-old Kevin J. Collins, of Yorkville, was also taken to Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora for treatment.
Alvardo is charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, not having valid registration, and disobeying a traffic control device.
Correction: This story has been updated to say that Kevin J. Collins was the driver of the second vehicle to be hit by the semi. The Yorkville Police Department says that the original press release from this morning had an incorrect name.
Correction: This story has been updated to show that two drivers were injured instead of only one as was originally reported. We regret the error.
