Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois needs the community’s help by voting for them to receive a $25,000 grant from State Farm® to help educate local girls about human trafficking and combat it in our community! Starting August 14, at 11:01 p.m., U.S. residents, ages 18 and older, with a valid email address can vote for Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois at Voters can vote up to ten times a day!  Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois has only until August 23 at 10:59 p.m. to rally votes!

Illinois is ranked eighth in the nation for human trafficking, and the average age at which girls enter the sex trade is only 12 years old! Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois is equipped to meet individual needs of girls and educate them on risky behaviors while teaching them to be empowered leaders. The organization’s Healthy Relationships program builds understanding of healthy intimate relationships, along with the awareness and prevention of human trafficking for girls, ages 10–15. Through their work with the Rockford Alliance Against Sexual Exploitation and the City of Rockford Office of Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking Prevention, they are ideally poised as an organization to eradicate human trafficking and domestic violence from our community.

If the organization receives the $25,00 grant, funds would be used to:

  • Provide financial assistance for every girl in the program to become a Girl Scout. No girl would be required to pay the membership fee or be turned away for inability to pay.
  • Provide for an expert consultant to assist in further development of the human trafficking part of the programming, train facilitators, and evaluation of the program ensuring success.
  • Provide a portion of salaries for 15 part-time facilitators to lead troops at 24 sites, including schools and community centers, ensuring consistent delivery of the program and allowing facilitators to build relationships with girls in the program.
  • Provide supplies and materials needed for expansion of middle school human trafficking programming.

On September 25, the top 40 vote-receiving causes will be announced at and a $25,000 grant will be awarded to each of the affiliated nonprofits. Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois would especially like to thank State Farm Agent Brian Pinkstaff for connecting them with this grant opportunity!
