Shoppers will find many bargains at the Spring Rummage and Bake Sale on Friday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Yorkville Congregational United Church of Christ.
A wide selection of reasonably priced household goods, toys, books, clothing for all ages, furniture, tools, holiday decor, collectibles and jewelry will be available. All adult clothing is priced at $1 and children’s clothes are 50 cents each.
This semi-annual event is a long time tradition at the church. Ladies in the church's circles began hosting rummage sales over 40 years ago in the building now housing Chapel on the Green. Proceeds from the sales have helped support the church, its facility, ministries and programs. Community based organizations including the Kendall County Community Food Pantry, Chapel on the Green, PADS, Mutual Ground, Association for Individual Development, Open Door, Wayside Cross, Feed My Starving Children, Ottawa Tornado Relief, Suicide Prevention Services, and Cornerstone Young Women's Learning Center have benefited from donations made possible by rummage sale proceeds.
In recent years, sale times have been expanded until 7:30 p.m. on Friday to enable those who work during the day the opportunity to shop the sale in the evening. A popular addition to the sale is the Friday only bake sale featuring a wide assortment of home baked goodies, which sell out quickly.
Saturday is Bag Day when bargain hunters can fill a brown paper grocery bag for only $3 per bag. Remaining larger items, which do not fit in a grocery bag, may be purchased at half price on Saturday morning.
The church is located at 409 Center Parkway, two blocks north of Route 34 on Center Parkway in Yorkville. For further information, call the church office: 630-553-7308
