There is a push to allow fireworks in the city of Plano next summer. However, not by residents. Plano City Council Alderman Ben Eaton brought up a proposal, backing it with these reasons.
Eaton is hoping to reduce the number of illegal fireworks in the city.
Plano Police Lt. Norm Allison provided the city council with this July 4th period report.
Alderman Stephen DeBolt indicated that firework sales were up 700 percent this summer, according to a seller. While Plano Mayor Bob Hausler called it a real problem.
Last summer, the Plano City Council increased the violation dollar amount. The first offense is now $250 while repeated offenses can range from $500 to $750. Jail time for one year is also a possibility.
Hausler referred the proposal for a July 4th Plano fireworks show to the special events committee, headed by alderwoman Barb Nadeu.
