The Illinois Elementary School Association has reversed its decision to cancel its fall sports season. The decision comes after the governor's office released updated guidance for sports and activities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Baseball and softball will happen in shortened seasons in the fall along with cross country and golf. Boys basketball, volleyball, wrestling, and competitive cheering will be during the winter season.
In the spring, girls basketball, bowling and track and field will take place. Speech contests, the state Chess Tournament in February, and Scholastic Bowl are still on.
The IESA says if any region is sent back to phase three of the governor's reopening plan - sports and activities will be canceled. Schools should only play schools in their conference or region. Schools are to have no more than two contests a week with baseball and softball doubleheaders as an exception.
