The director of the Kendall County Health Department RaeAnn VanGundy informed the Grundy Kendall Regional Office of Education earlier this week that Kendall County is experiencing "substantial" community transmission of COVID-19.
VanGundy says she shared data from the Illinois Department of Public Health on regional and county risk metrics to help school officials in their decision making process. The Health Department did not advise any school districts to shut down any schools.
Ultimately, the decision on whether a school district, or any individual school, moves to remote learning is up to the superintendent.
Several area schools have gone to full remote learning, for at least some time, over COVID-19 exposure including the entire Somonauk School District, the Serena School District, the Earlville School District, and Millbrook Jr. High in the Newark School District. Serena and Millbrook Jr. High are set to return to classes next week.
