Our sister station WLBK reports that arson is suspected again in the second fire at a DeKalb apartment building in less than two days time.

DeKalb Fire Chief Jeff McMaster says investigators believe the fire early Thursday morning at 930 Greenbrier Road was not accidental.

This building, like the one in a fire Tuesday night, is owned by Hunter Properties. Tuesday night's fire at 808 Ridge Drive is also a suspected case of arson.

No one was injured in Thursday's fire, but ten tenants were displaced. McMaster says the American Red Cross is helping them with shelter and food.

The fire was reported shortly after 5:00 a.m. on Thursday morning.

DeKalb firefighters say there was smoke coming from the building’s windows and they found a dryer on fire in the hallway of the building’s garden level. Officials have said Tuesday’s fire also started in a hallway, but on mattresses.

It took firefighters 15 minutes to get Thursday morning’s fire under control. It caused an estimated $50,000 in damage.

McMaster says four apartments on the garden level were left uninhabitable. Residents in the upper-level apartments were allowed to return to their homes.

No arrests have been announced yet in either fire.
