An Aurora man who is currently being held in the Kendall County Jail on Theft charges faces new charges in relation to multiple residential burglaries that occurred in the county in Oct. 2018 and alleged possession of contraband in the county jail.

According to the Kendall County Sheriff's Office, charges were approved on Aug. 12 against 39-year-old Frederick Spencer of S. Front St. for three counts each of Residential Burglary, Aggravated Identity Theft and Unlawful Use of a Credit Card.

Spencer additionally faces a charge of Possession of Contraband in a Penal Institution.

Officials say deputies responded to a residential burglary in the 7000 blk. of Galena Rd. near Yorkville on Oct. 26. A second residential burglary report was taken at a residence in the 100 blk. of Kevin Ln. in Oswego Twp. that same day.

During the course of the investigation it was determined that the suspect, who has now been identified as Spencer, was linked to three additional residential burglaries.

One of the victims reported that their credit card had been taken during the burglary and subsequently used at several local merchants.

Spencer was allegedly observed on video conducting these transactions.

In addition to the charges in relation to the residential burglaries, Spencer is also charged for alleged possession of contraband in the county jail.

Detectives initiated an investigation into a report of an inmate allegedly obtaining unauthorized control over a cell phone within the jail on May 8.

The investigation determined that Spencer allegedly removed the phone from an authorized civilian contractor within the jail.

Spencer returned the phone to the contractor later in the day, without their knowledge.

Officials say there is no indication at this time that the temporary possession of the phone by Spencer cased an increased risk to the facility.
