Mayor Rich Robinson appointed, and the Sandwich City Council approved, two new aldermen at Monday night's regular council meeting.

Bill Littlebrandt assumes the Ward 1 seat previously held by Les Redden, and Rick Whitecotton takes over for Ward 4 alderwoman Sheryl Chmielewski.

Both Redden and Chmielewski moved out of Sandwich.

Littlebrandt and Whitcotton plan to run for their seats in the April 6, 2021 Consolidated Election.

Littlebrandt is a 1988 graduate of Sandwich H.S., and he is the general manager of Cascade Water Works in Yorkville.

Littlebrandt spoke about why he was interested in the alderman seat.

Littlebrandt's Ward 1 is one of the Sandwich wards that has had flooding problems during heavy rains.

Rick Whitecotton is a 1976 graduate of Plano H.S. and moved to Sandwich in the early 1980's.  Whitecotton is the son of former Plano Mayor Ralph Whitecotton.

Rick Whitecotton has served on the Sandwich Fire Dept., and he works for his family's business, Plano Metal Specialties.

Whitecotton spoke about why he applied for the Ward 4 alderman position.

Whitecotton was asked about how he feels about the long anticipated move of the Sandwich Police station from College St. to E. 6th St.

Mayor Rich Robinson spoke after the meeting about why he selected Littlebrandt and Whitcotton for the appointments.

The City Treasurer position is also vacant in Sandwich, and Mayor Robinson said he is looking into eliminating the position or possibly appointing someone to the office.  The City Treasurer is also up for election on April 6 of next. year.
