The Illinois Department of Transportation announced on Tuesday that bridge repairs and pavement improvements between Montgomery and Oswego will begin on May 1st, weather permitting.
In a statement, officials say the work will take place on Route 31 between Caterpillar Drive and the Route 31 Frontage Road, in between Montgomery and Oswego.
IDOT says in order to complete the project, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and shifted to the southbound lanes before switching to the northbound lanes during the second phase of work.
The project is expected to be complete by the end of October.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
