A Crest Hill woman was killed in a fatal accident that also injured an Illinois State Police trooper on I-55 near Romeoville on Thursday.
According to Illinois State Police officials, troopers responded to the crash on I-55 southbound north of Weber Rd. at around 1:55 a.m.
Initial investigation indicates that a vehicle being driven by 33-year-old Danielle Nino of Crest Hill was traveling through the construction zone in the right lane.
For an unknown reason, Nino's vehicle lost control and overturned across the left two lanes that were shut down.
Nino's vehicle rolled onto the left shoulder, striking the rear of a stationary ISP squad car while the trooper, who has not been identified, was still inside.
Officials say Nino was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Will County Coroner's Office.
The ISP trooper was transported to an area hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
An investigation into the crash is on-going at this time.
