Our sister station WCSJ reports that a child has died, following an ATV accident that occurred in Grundy County over the weekend.
The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office and Morris Fire Protection and Ambulance District were dispatched to the 3800 block of N. Dwight Road in Morris for a serious ATV accident that occurred around 11:40 a.m. on Saturday.
Deputies on scene observed a male juvenile wearing a helmet pinned underneath an overturned ATV. First responders worked to free the child, who was then transported to Morris Hospital.
Due to the seriousness of his injuries, the juvenile was immediately airlifted to an area trauma center. The Grundy County Sheriff’s Department said the child succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
The child has not been further identified at this point.
Grundy County Sheriff Ken Briley said he would like to remind residents to use caution and practice safe driving when operating all-terrain vehicles, always wear a helmet, and obey all laws pertaining to the operations of ATVs.
