Around $200,000 in damage is estimated and two people were hospitalized, following a Monday night house fire near Mendota.
Mendota and Mendota/Troy Grove fire crews were called to the 3000 block of E. 3rd Rd., south of Mendota, around 10:05 p.m. on Monday night where a single-story home was found with smoke and fire.
Numerous additional departments and emergency responders responded to the scene to aid in the fire response.
Mendota Fire officials say two elderly residents were transported from the scene to OSF St. Paul Hospital in Mendota and have since been released. An additional occupant who had entered the residence on fire was reportedly uninjured.
Officials say the fire is believed to be accidental. The Illinois State Fire Marshal was called to investigate.
Officials say crews remained on scene until around 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday morning but were recalled later in the morning to re-extinguish hot spots.
Assisting Mendota and Mendota/Troy Grove Fire was Earlville, LaSalle, Sublette, Ladd, Cherry, Utica, Peru and LaMoille Fire as well as response from Peru, Oglesby and Compton ambulance, the LaSalle County Sheriff's Office and Earlville Police.
Dispatch with MABAS 25 and Illinois Valley Regional Dispatch also assisted.
