Illinois House Republicans are proposing a series of ethics reforms they'd like to see passed next week.
The House GOP has put together a package of five bills to address several ethics concerns and Republican Rep. Tom Demmer of Dixon says they want them passed quickly.
House Leader Jim Durkin also spoke about the legislation.
The bills prevent lawmakers and their families from doing paid lobbying work with local governments -- a measure directly correlating with the recent indictment of Rep. Luis Arroyo.
Other requirements include a special election when a vacancy opens up in the General Assembly and a piece that would allow a chief co-sponsor of any bill with five co-sponsors from each party to call it for an up or down vote in a substantive committee.
