Local municipalities are urging citizens to only flush toilet paper and resist flushing wipes amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Assistant Yorkville City Adminitstrator Erin Willrett says residents should only flush toilet paper, no wipes or other materials, to be sure that sewer systems continue to run smoothly.

In addition to sewer systems, village officials in Oswego ask residents to take extra caution with garbage service.

Groot Industries, the Village of Oswego's contracted waste hauler, announced Friday that haulers have been instructed to only collect garbage and recycling placed in carts and bagged trash only.

Haulers will not collect trash that is loose in cans, bulk items or trash that is missed or not put at the curb on time to protect workers from contracting and spreading COVID-19.
