If you are taking the kids out to trick-or-treat or if you have children old enough to trick-or-treat on their own, Kendall County Sheriff Dwight Baird has some safety tips for your 'trick-or-treaters' as they go door to door on October 31st. Here are just a few...
- Ensure your child's costume fits well, is flame retardant and does not obscure visibility.
- Tell your child to stay in well-lit areas, never take shortcuts and to never go into isolated areas.
- Tell your child to say ''NO'' and get away from any person or situation that makes them feel scared, uncomfortable or confused.
Children should never enter a residence without a parent or guardian's permission. Be proactive by checking with your local law enforcement agency to find out if there are registered offenders in your neighborhood.
Safety should always be a top priority for you and your family as there can be 'tricksters' that will try to take advantage of children while they are out and about, especially on Halloween.
