If you are taking the kids out to trick-or-treat or if you have children old enough to trick-or-treat on their own, Kendall County Sheriff Dwight Baird has some safety tips for your 'trick-or-treaters' as they go door to door on October 31st. Here are just a few...

  • Ensure your child's costume fits well, is flame retardant and does not obscure visibility.
  • Tell your child to stay in well-lit areas, never take shortcuts and to never go into isolated areas.
  • Tell your child to say ''NO'' and get away from any person or situation that makes them feel scared, uncomfortable or confused.

Children should never enter a residence without a parent or guardian's permission. Be proactive by checking with your local law enforcement agency to find out if there are registered offenders in your neighborhood.

Safety should always be a top priority for you and your family as there can be 'tricksters' that will try to take advantage of children while they are out and about, especially on Halloween.

You can view the complete list of Sheriff Baird's safety tips below.
