Our sister station WCSJ reports that the Illinois State Police and the Grundy County Coroner's Office are investigating a traffic crash that occurred on Interstate 80 near the westbound Rest Area around 9:45 a.m. on Saturday.

The Illinois State Police said a vehicle driven by 48 year-old Steven Shambora of St. Charles was traveling on the ramp from Interstate 80 to the westbound rest area, when for unknown reasons struck the back of a semi-truck that was parked on the shoulder of the ramp.

Extrication was performed by Minooka Fire Department and Shambora was pronounced dead at the scene by Grundy County Coroner John Callahan.

The driver of the parked semi, a 68 year-old South Dakota man, was not injured and no citations were issued.
