Our sister station WCSJ reports that the Illini State Park Foundation will unveil the “Surround of Honor” in memory and honor of all Illinois Soldiers that died in the Middle East Wars On Friday, November 8, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Illini State Park in Marseilles.
The surround includes a series of steel panels that hold engraved bricks for each fallen Illinois soldier from the Middle East Wars. Each brick contains the name, branch of service and hometown of the fallen soldier. Another addition is a 700 pound steel kneeling soldier.
The families of the fallen soldiers and the public are invited to the event. Confirmed speakers are Department of Veterans’ Affairs Director, Linda Chapa LaVia. Also invited are Illinois Governor J. B. Pritzker, U.S. Senators Richard Durbin and Tammy Duckworth, Congressman Adam Kinzinger, State Senator Sue Rezin, State Representative David Welter, Marseilles Mayor Jim Hollenbeck and LaSalle County Board Chairman, Jim Olson.
Attendees are requested to park at the Illinois Valley Cellular parking lot just north of Illini State Park. A Starved Rock Trolley will take attendees to and from the event.
