Mendota Police officials say a Mendota man was transported to the critical care unit of a hospital via Life Flight helicopter, following a two-vehicle crash in Mendota on Saturday afternoon.

Police and Mendota Fire responded around 12:34 p.m. to the intersection of 8th Ave. and 2nd St. for the report of a traffic crash.

Upon investigation, police officials say officers learned that 56 year-old Salvador Tinajero of Mendota was traveling northbound on 8th Ave. approaching the 2nd St. intersection when he allegedly failed to yield to the right of way to a west bound vehicle being operated by a 21 year-old Mendota man.

Tinajero was transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital where, as of Monday morning, he remained in the critical care unit. Police did not indicate if the other Mendota man was injured and citations were not announced in a press statement.

The traffic crash is still under investigation.
