The remains of a missing Sandwich man have been found at an Iowa campground where he was last seen before going missing last month. 

The Cerro Gordo County, Iowa Sheriff's Office reports that 48 year-old Lawrence "Larry" Howlett of Sandwich was found around 6:12 p.m. Friday in a pond at the Camp at the Woods campground.

The remains have been identified as Howlett with the help of family and by property found with the remains.

Howlett was reported missing on June 8. He had last been seen at the campground. 

Howlett’s body has been sent to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy. The Sheriff’s Office says the investigation into this death is continuing.

Assisting at the scene Friday were the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the Mason City Fire Department, and MercyOne North Iowa Pathology.

The search for a missing Sandwich man in Iowa continues.

According to a post from the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Office in Iowa, the sheriff along with North Iowa CERT and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources are investigating and are searching for 48 year-old Lawrence "Larry" Eugene Howlett of Sandwich.

As WSPY reported earlier this month, authorities said Howlett was last seen June 1st at about 10:00 p.m. near his camper along the Shell Rock River.

The location is at Camp at the Woods campground in Mason City, northwest of Rock Falls, Iowa. Howlett was reported missing on June 8th.

The sheriff's office says Howlett was last seen wearing blue jeans shorts, a gray tank top, white socks and newer Khaki boots. He is described as a white male, 5’5” tall, 160 pounds, green eyes and grayish brown hair.

Howlett also has a Batman, Superman and the name "Baileigh" tattooed on his left arm and "Shantal" on his right arm.

Cerro Gordo Sheriff's Officials say in a post that since Howlett was reported missing, authorities have conducted ground and water searches in the area where he was last seen.

Several citizens have contacted WSPY regarding citizen initiated searches and have been flyering and sharing missing persons information with the hope of finding Howlett.

The sheriff's office is asking for the public's assistance in locating Larry Howlett and is urging anyone with any information to call the sheriff’s office at (641) 421-3000.
