UPDATE, 9/6/19 at 2:30 p.m.

A 72-year old woman from Niles, Illinois died and a Girard man was airlifted with serious injuries in a crash in southern Kendall County on Thursday afternoon.

Kendall County Coroner Jacquie Purcell says Annette Briars was pronounced deceased around 3:30 p.m. Purcell says an autopsy is scheduled for Friday afternoon.

Authorities responded to the accident near Lisbon Twp. on Route 47 near Sherill Rd. in Kendall County just at 1:40 p.m. on Thursday.

The Kendall County Sheriff's Office and Illinois State Police were handling the accident scene.

In a Friday afternoon press release, ISP officials say that Briars was traveling on Rt. 47 southbound just north of Sherill Rd. when she struck a vehicle being driven by 44-year-old Shannon Bertram of Girard head on.

Briars was pronounced deceased on the scene, and Bertram was airlifted from the scene with serious injuries.

The investigation is on-going.
