A Yorkville economic development official says the opening for a new hotel and banquet center under construction in the city remains outstanding, but should be known in the next couple of weeks.

Yorkville Economic Development Consultant Lynn Dubajic told WSPY on Tuesday afternoon that the Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Kendall Crossing near Route 47 and Route 34, may not make a previously projected October opening, but is, "not too far away."

Dubajic first announced the franchise planned to come to Yorkville in 2017 and said at the time the hope was to be open by summer of 2018 but the date was pushed back.

Yorkville Mayor John Purcell, Dubajic and City Code official Pete Ratos toured the construction of the hotel in July.

Mayor Purcell mentioned at that time that the four-story, 90-room hotel with a 12,000-square-foot banquet facility hoped to open in early October with the banquet center to follow next Spring.

However, the large project is making headway. Dubajic said on Tuesday that the parking lot of the hotel should be finished on Wednesday.

Crews also just poured the floor of the attached banquet center and Dubajic says residents should soon see steel beams erected for the banquet center that will be attached to the hotel by a breezeway.

Dubajic added that officials will have a better idea of the opening in the next couple of weeks and that progress is moving along.
