A Plano man is charged with Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer and now a Resisting a Peace Officer charge after he was taken into custody over the weekend.
Kendall County booking records show 32 year-old Jeffrey Reading-Mathena of W. Main St. in Plano was booked on Saturday.
Plano Police say they encountered Mathena last month on March 13th at 1:12 a.m. after police responded to an apartment in the 0 to 50 block of W. Main St. for a well-being check.
Upon arrival, police say they made contact with Mathena who they allege was highly intoxicated.
Mathena was handcuffed when he allegedly became combative. Officials say a police officer was kicked while escorting Mathena our of the apartment.
Mathena was then transported to an area hospital for an evaluation.
Kendall County Court records show counts of Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer were filed on March 27th and a misdemeanor Resisting a Peace Officer charge was filed on Monday.
Mathena made a court appearance on Monday and was appointed the public defender. As WSPY previously reported, Mathena was arrested by Plano Police twice in December of 2018.
He was first arrested for Animal Cruelty. Police said they found a dog chained up outside and made contact with the owner, Mathena, who allegedly refused to take the dog inside.
Mathena was then arrested the same week after police were called to a business for the report of an intoxicated male inside of the business.
Employees alleged to police that Reading-Mathena had attempted to steal items and when confronted, allegedly told employees that he had a gun.
No gun was found when police again made contact with Reading-Mathena. He was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct.
Mathena remains held in the Kendall County Jail on his most recent charges.
