A Plainfield woman has been cited after police allege she leaned over to pick up her cell phone, causing a traffic crash on Route 71 on Tuesday.
In an update, police say that 43 year-old Nicole Molinari of Mt. Pleasant Ct. in Plainfield was ticketed for Cell Phone In a Construction Zone and Improper Lane Usage.
Around 11:35 a.m., Molinari was headed north on Route 71, about half of a mile south of Route 126 when she allegedly crossed into oncoming traffic and sideswiped a pickup truck being driven south by a 66 year-old Colorado man.
The pickup was pulling a 5th wheel trailer.
Police allege Molinari told them she had dropped her phone.
According to a report, Molinari's vehicle and the vehicle with the trailer both sustained major damage. Route 71 in that area was closed during accident reconstruction.
Police list that Molinari sustained injuries but was not hospitalized. The Colorado man and a passenger from the same address were not injured, nor was the man cited.
