A solemn ceremony was held in Sandwich on Wednesday evening to remember those lost and those who have continued to deal with the impact of September 11th, 2001.

Gathered outside of Sandwich VFW Post 1486 on S. Main St., officials from the VFW, the American Legion Post #181, the city of Sandwich, Sandwich Police and Sandwich Fire and many others joined together for a flag raising, bell ringing, a wreath laying ceremony, and an overall remembrance of 9/11.

Sandwich Mayor Rich Robinson was among those who spoke.

American Legion Post Commander Celeste Latham said 9/11 is a day that Americans will never forget.

Wednesday marked the 18th anniversary of September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The somber annual reminder of those lost on that day and in the years that have followed has become known as, "Patriot Day."
