The 2018-2019 Sandwich High School Girls Basketball Team

The Sandwich H.S. girls basketball finished 32-1 and won the Regional Tournament.  The team was honored at the March 11 Sandwich City Council meeting. At Monday's meeting, the Sandwich City Council honored Coach Chris Johnson and the 32-1 Sandwich High School girls basketball team.

The girls won the regional, beating Kaneland 39-34 on the Lady Knights home court.

Sandwich lost in the first round of the Rochelle Sectional to Rock Falls 50-28.

The Lady Indians also won the Interstate 8 Conference Tournament and the I-8 Conference championship.

At Monday's meeting, Lady Indians Head Coach Chris Johnson spoke about the team.

Sarah Ness was voted as Player of the Year in the I-8 Conference and was special mention on the Illinois Basketball Coaches Assoc. All-State Team.

WSPY Sports Director Jim Teckenbrock covered many of the Lady Indians' games, and Teckenbrock also spoke at last Monday's Sandwich City Council meeting.

Sandwich Mayor Rick Olson read the proclamation.

Coach Johnson said that eight of the nine girls on the varsity were Academic All-Conference.

Sandwich Superintendent Rick Schmitt also attended the ceremony.
