The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office says a Sandwich man was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries after a family member accidentally ran him over while they were picking up trash north of Sandwich on Tuesday.

Sheriff's deputies were called to Chicago Rd., west of E. Sandwich Rd. around 1:38 p.m. for a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident.

Upon arrival, the sheriff's office says deputies found 83 year-old David Stahl of Chicago Rd. in the north ditch behind a pickup truck that had been driven by a family member of the same address.

Investigation found that Stahl was picking up trash in the ditch being followed by the family member in the truck when she accidentally ran him over.

Stahl was transported by Sandwich Fire to Rush Copley Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The family member was not injured nor was she cited.
