The LaSalle County Sheriff's Office says that a 75 year-old Sandwich man was hospitalized with unknown injuries after he was struck by a train in Somonauk on Monday night.
The sheriff's office says 75 year-old David Erickson of Sandwich got his vehicle stuck on railroad tracks at the crossing on N. 48th Rd. near U.S. Route 34.
A westbound BNSF train struck the passenger side of Erickson's vehicle that was on the tracks with Erickson inside.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the crossing at 6:38 p.m. to investigate.
Following the crash, officials say BNSF stopped the train immediately and paramedics transported to Erickson to Valley West Hospital in Sandwich.
He then required transport to a hospital in Downers Grove.
No injuries were reported on the train and no citations were issued.
