Yorkville Police say school officials were made aware Thursday morning that a student found a 9mm shell casing on school grounds on Wednesday.
Police say in a statement that the shell casing was found by a sixth-grade student at Grande Reserve Elementary school.
Around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, school officials were made aware of the casing and police officials say that at this point in their investigation, they have found no evidence to corroborate that a weapon was on school grounds or that there was any threat to the safety of students and/or staff at the school.
Police are continuing their investigation in conjunction with Yorkville CUSD #115 officials.
