Minor injuries were reported Monday afternoon after a small fixed wing plane landed on I-88 westbound near Kaneville in Kane County.
Illinois State Police say the crash occurred around 4:00 p.m. in the area of milepost 101.25.
Officials say the small plane took off from Waukegan airport enroute to Aurora. Shortly after takeoff, the pilot, who has not been further identified, reported having engine trouble.
The pilot attempted an emergency landing on Interstate 88 westbound. Images from the scene show the plane was heavily damaged.
Traffic was also backed up for several miles on Monday afternoon while clean up ensued.
During the landing, the small plane’s wing clipped a truck before coming to rest in the center median grassy area. The pilot sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by Kaneville Fire Department to a local area hospital.
The driver of the truck was not injured and the vehicle suffered minor damage. The FAA and NTSB have been notified.
