A location has been identified for a fast food restaurant that has been discussed for some time in the city of Yorkville.
Yorkville Economic Development Director Lynn Dubajic says that a Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen is expected to be constructed with a stand-alone building and a drive-thru near Route 47 on lots between the Millhurst Ale House and the Rosati's Pizza.
Dubajic made the announcement on Tuesday night at the city's economic development committee meeting.
Popeye's was first announced to be coming to Yorkville in 2018 but was later put on hold after developers pulled initial plans.
The restaurant was planning to locate in the former Subway space at Fountain Village on the city's south side but that later changed because of corporate disinterest in the location. It was announced in 2019 that a stand alone location was desired and that the franchise was still planned, but a location or timeline was not solidified.
Dubajic said Tuesday that franchisee Z&H Foods, which will operate around 300 locations in 2020, is the operator for the Yorkville location.
The group is based out of Sugar Land, Texas and are the largest franchisee of Popeye's in the U.S. Locally, Dubajic said the operator is the brother of the man who runs the Yorkville Burger King.
She added that she had been working on solidifying the details of the new location for over a year.
