A 16 year-old from Chicago, whose name has not been given, was the deceased in a fatal crash near Matthiessen State Park in LaSalle County on Monday afternoon.
That's according to the LaSalle County Coroner's Office. Illinois State Police have also provided more information about the crash.
Officials say the teen deceased was pronounced dead at 4:15 p.m.
Illinois State Police and various emergency crews responded around 3:20 p.m. to the west side entrance which is on Route 178.
Preliminary investigation revealed a truck-tractor with semi-trailer, operated by a 68 year-old Grand Ridge man was traveling south and as he approached the entrance, a vehicle operated by the 16 year-old male attempted to turn left onto Route 178 when the semi struck the left side of the teen's vehicle.
The vehicle came to rest in the ditch south east of the intersection and the semi jackknifed and came to rest across both lanes of traffic.
The juvenile male driver succumbed to his injuries, a 16 year-old juvenile male passenger, also of Chicago, was transported to Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru with serious injuries.
A 16 year-old female juvenile passenger also of Chicago was transferred to a Peoria hospital via helicopter with serious injuries.
This crash remains under investigation. No citations have been issued, to date.
