A number of events will be taking place in coming days to celebrate Veterans Day in the WSPY listening area.
On Thursday, the 4th Grade Veterans Day Assembly will be held at Emily G. Johns Intermediate School in Plano from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
During the event, a ceremony including a vocal performance by 4th grade students will be conducted to honor local veterans. Following the performance, the veterans will share artifacts, pictures and stories about their experiences with students.
On Friday, a Veterans Day assembly will be held at Bristol Bay Elementary School in Yorkville.
The event will include a breakfast for student's families with veterans from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. The school-wide celebration will be held from 8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.
An active-duty veteran stationed in Cuba will also be video calling into a classroom at the school at 11:20 a.m.
Yorkville High School will host its annual Veterans Day Assembly Monday, November 11, in the High School Library. Eight different speakers are lined up that will speak throughout the day about their experience as members of our armed forces.
Almost each military branch will be represented by these Veterans. Many of these Veterans have various ties to the Yorkville area and include former students and current teachers.
13 veterans are expected to attend an assembly at Yorkville Middle School on Monday, beginning at 8:10 a.m. Music groups will perform, recognition of veterans, and then a speaker from the Honor Flight organization will address the assembly. Veterans are relatives of the student body.
On Monday, Plano Middle School will be hosting an assembly to pay honor and recognition to veterans. The assembly will take place from approximately 7:50 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Officials say all veterans of the Plano area are welcome to attend. All who are planning to attend are asked to RSVP to Plano Middle School by noon on Friday at (630) 552-3608.
Sandwich CUSD #430 will be holding a breakfast for local veterans on Monday in the cafeteria at Sandwich High School from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
Following the breakfast, an assembly will take place at the high school from 8:15 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Assemblies will take place at Herman E. Dummer Elementary School from 9:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Sandwich Middle School from 10:15 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., L.G. Haskin Elementary School from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., Prairie View Elementary School from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and W.W. Woodbury Elementary School from 2:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
Somonauk School District will have their annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday in the High School gym.
The program starts at approximately 8:30 a.m. Grade school students will be singing & High School band will perform.
A hot breakfast will be served for all veterans about 9:20 a.m. in the High School cafeteria.

The annual Aurora Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony will also be held on Monday.
The parade steps-off at the corner of Benton and Broadway at 10:15 a.m., ending at the G.A.R. Memorial Hall, where the "Serving Our Country and Community" ceremony takes place.
The ceremony includes a military rifle salute by veteran organizations at 11 a.m., the exact time the armistice was signed that ended WWI.
Also on Monday, the Leland American Legion will have a Veteran's Day program at Leland High School starting at 10:00 a.m.
Later on in the day on Monday, the Veteran's Day Dinner will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Leland American Legion, located at 168 N. Main Street.
The public is invited to the event. Veterans eat for free, while the public may give a donation of their choice for their dinner.
An event will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the Sheridan Veteran's Memorial where a number of legions and others will join together for a ceremony with a 21-gun salute.
Serena High School will also hold an event at 9:30 a.m.
