Lover's Leap at Starved Rock State Park

UPDATE:

Illinois State Police say that the body found in the Illinois River near Starved Rock State Park has been identified to be that of a Wheaton man.

According to a Tuesday afternoon press release, the McLean County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as 37-year-old Michael Warmerdam of Wheaton in an autopsy that took place on Sunday.

Warmerdam's body was transported to Bloomington-Normal for an autopsy.

As WSPY reported on Monday, Illinois Conservation Police officials say the LaSalle County Coroner's Office was called to the scene around 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Officials say the body was found near Hidden Canyon on the south side of the river.

Illinois State Police, Utica Fire, Utica Police were also called to the scene.

ISP officials say that no additional information will be released, as this is an active and on-going investigation.

Authorities are investigating after a kayaker found a body in the Illinois River near Starved Rock State Park in LaSalle County on Saturday. 

Illinois Conservation Police officials say the LaSalle County Coroner's Office was called around 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Officials say the body was found near Hidden Canyon on the south side of the river. 

Illinois State Police, Utica Fire, Utica Police were also called to the scene. The deceased has not been further identified and officials have not released any additional information at this point. 

Investigation is ongoing.
