Officials with the Illinois Department of Transportation reports that construction is scheduled to begin on Monday on the widening of a section of Route 71 through Yorkville.
In a statement, IDOT officials say Route 71 between Route 47 and Route 126 will be rebuilt and widened from a two-lane highway to four lanes with a median.
The statement indicated Route 71 may be reduced at times to one lane controlled by flaggers during the preliminary work.
IDOT has awarded a $12.5 million contract to D Construction of Coal City to complete the work. A timeline of completion was not given.
IDOT officials warn motorists of delays and say they should allow extra time for trips through the area and to avoid the work area when feasible.
