Phone Scam

Will County Sheriff's Office officials are warning citizens of a recent phone scam in the county.

According to a press release, several residents have received phone calls from a person who identifies themselves as a lieutenant from the department.

The male subject allegedly informs the resident that they have a warrant out for their arrest.

The subject then directs the resident to go to a store an purchase prepaid gift cards in order to cover the amount of their bond.

Officials say the subject then calls the resident back so that they can provide him with the card numbers.

This group of scammers are using a phone number that appears legitimate as the Sheriff's Office that is displayed on caller ID. In addition, they are using the name of a deputies as well as his badge number.

The Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents that they do not conduct business over the phone to inform any individual that they have a warrant out for their arrest.
