The city of Yorkville will look to re-name a park after a former mayor and alderman.
According to Yorkville City Council documents, this past November, the Yorkville Park Board forwarded a request to the council's meeting next week to name the Windett Ridge Subdivision park after former Yorkville Mayor and Alderman, Dr. Robert Coleman.
Dr. Coleman passed away in August of 2019 at the age of 94. Coleman served as the mayor of Yorkville from 1967 to 1975 and was a longtime member of the city's Planning Committee.
Dr. Coleman was additionally the owner and operator, until his retirement, of Coleman Chiropractor Center in Yorkville. For more than 40 years, he also served as a Board Member and Chairman of the Open Door Rehabilitation Center in Sandwich, among several other attributes in the community.
Yorkville Parks and Recreation Director Tim Evans writes that currently, the park at 2500 Fairfax Way is called, "Windett Ridge Park" and is pirate-themed with a playground.
The request was submitted by a citizen on behalf of the Coleman family. They have suggested the name, "Coleman Park."
The Yorkville City Council meets on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. at Yorkville City Hall where the item is on the agenda.
