Two Yorkville residents went before the Yorkville City Council earlier this week and say that a new cable provider damaged their yard while installing fiber optic.

David and Stephanie Lopez live in the Greenbriar subdivision. Stephanie Lopez said their yard was recently damaged by MetroNet installation.

Lopez said that a worker told her he didn't realize the line was where it was.

David Lopez said he thought their yard was driven onto because they do not have a fence but said they have a sprinkler system that could easily have been damaged.

Ward 1 Alderman Ken Koch said the city needs to look into the company's communication with residents.

MetroNet began installation in Yorkville in 2018 and is installing fiber optic, via agreements with numerous municipalities in the WSPY listening area.

Yorkville Mayor John Purcell had city staff take down the resident's information and said the city will make sure the lawn gets fixed.
