A 32-year-old woman from Hamilton, Illinois was killed and seventeen others were injured in a hayride crash in rural Hancock County in Western Illinois Sunday night. The name of the woman who died is being withheld by Illinois State Police pending notification of next of kin. The crash happened east of Elvaston.
Among the injured were three more adults and fourteen juveniles, the youngest being a one-year-old. There were twenty passengers
Police say the driver of the hayride 41-year-old Wayne York, of Nauvoo, lost control the John Deere Tractor and trailer where the passengers were riding on square hay bales and went off the road. The vehicle then overturned and several people were thrown off. York is charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
