David Nelson

David L. Nelson, 72, of Leland passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at Valley West Hospital in Sandwich, IL.  He was born July 16, 1947 in Sandwich, IL, the son of Axel Burton and Emma Julia (Heminover) Nelson.  He married Barbara M. Iverson on January 9, 1968 in Honolulu, HI.  Dave was a proud member of the US Marine Corps, serving 2 tours during Vietnam.  He is a member of the Leland American Legion Post 570.  Dave owned and operated Nelson Builders for over 25 years.  He was a topnotch gardener, an avid Chicago Bears fan, enjoyed a hand of euchre, and had a blast cruising around town in his golf cart.  Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Leland, IL; two sons, Timothy (Valarie) Nelson and Jeremy (Amee) Nelson both of Leland, IL; six grandchildren, Michelle (AJ), Jordan (Candace), Caitlyn, Lynsey, Madison, and Gunnar; four great grandchildren, Emma, Jocelyn, Chase, and Natalie; his siblings, Patricia Gates of Sandwich, IL, Rita Alsip of Minooka, IL, and Charles (Kay) Nelson of Leland, IL; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Marie Johnson, and a brother, Richard Nelson.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk with Pastor Tony Gruben officiating.  Burial will follow at Leland Cemetery in Leland, IL.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the funeral home in Somonauk.  Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.  For more information or to sign the online guest book, go to www.EighnerFuneralHomes.com
