Karen Leasure

Karen Marie Abens Leasure, age 79, of Sandwich, formally of Hinckley passed away peacefully at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois on January 27, 2020.  She was born on September 21st, 1940 to Laverne and Gladys Abens. Karen graduated Sandwich High School in 1958 and married Jim Leasure on December 7th, 1963.

Karen was a talented craftsman who truly enjoyed sewing, quilting, and attending craft fairs. She never tried to sell her goods for the money, as she truly enjoyed creating new crafts and meeting new people. She also loved her Tuesday night sewing club with her sisters and sisters in law, never missing if she could help it. Karen truly loved meeting her children`s friends during their time at the Hinckley - Big Rock High School, enjoying their company. Karen was an avid Chicago Blackhawks and NASCAR fan.
Karen made lifelong friends during her working career from the Mary Ann to Lucent Technologies to helping Wendy and the boys at Kendall County Concrete.

Karen was a fearless person who tried downhill skiing, cross country skiing, horseback riding, and roller coasters. One of the biggest joys in her life was spending time with her family and her grandchildren, specifically at the Sandwich Fair because she was adamant about never missing a year. She never missed a family reunion, a holiday, or any family event.  Karen loved traveling out West to Colorado, Arizona, and California to visit family. Once she was home, she wished to return as often as she could.  Along with loving the American West, she loved traveling to the Northwoods of Wisconsin for snowmobiling, hunting and of course making the occasional trip to the casino where she loved playing the slots.

Karen is survived by her husband Jim of Sandwich, her four children, Doug (Stacy) of Somonauk; Dawn (Kurt) Lindquist of Big Rock, David of Sandwich, Dan (Wendy) of Tomahawk Wisconsin. Six grandchildren, Katie Leasure of Sheridan, Hunter and Alex Lindquist of Big Rock, Ashley Leasure of Naperville, Cheyenne Leasure of Minneapolis Minnesota and Wyatt Leasure of Tomahawk Wisconsin.

Karen is proceeded in death by her parents, three brothers: Laverne "Pete", Arnold and Bill Abens, one sister Irene Thomas and a niece Janice Hill.

We are not asking you to mourn the loss of Karen, but to help celebrate her life as she would want everyone to do.

Visitation for Karen will be held at Beverage Family Funeral Home 104 Terry St Sandwich Illinois on Thursday January 30th from 3-7 PM. A brief service for Karen will be at the funeral home Friday January 31st at 11
