Donald A. Wegener, 90, of Somonauk, IL passed away Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Highland Oaks Nursing Home in Elgin, IL. He was born July 7, 1930 in McHenry, IL the son of Anthony G. and Una M. (Wiser) Wegener. He married Jean Herrmann on August 23, 1952 at St. Mary’s Assumption Church in Maple Pak, IL.

Don farmed for many years with his father in Maple Park before moving to the farm in Somonauk. Later, after moving off the farm, he served as custodian and bus driver for 37 years with the Somonauk School District. Don was a devoted husband and father to 10 wonderful children and also loved his community and his church. Don enjoyed a good game of 500, seeing who he could trump and also was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed razzing his brothers about the Sox.

He is survived by his wife Jean; his children Cheryl (Jim) Elder, Maryellen (Bud) Norcross of Rochelle, IL Peggy (Brad) Stever of Somonauk, IL, Joan Francis of Mendota, IL, Julie (Randy) Anderson of Sheridan, IL, James (Patty) Wegener of Hudson, WI, Kim (Brian) Goodman of Monument, CO; Chris (Mindy) Wegener of Sandwich, IL, Nick (Kelly) Wegener of Somonauk, IL, daughter-in-law Diane Wegener of Rochelle, IL ; his brother David (Gerda) Wegener of Rochelle, IL; sisters Doris Hall of Maple Park, IL and Susan Knodle of Scottsdale, AZ; 43 grandchildren and 67 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Anthony, Bernard, Daniel and Kenny; his sister Mary; his son Joe; his son-in-law Robert Francis; his infant granddaughter Melanie Rose Anderson and infant great grandson James Adam Rahe.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk, IL with Father Kevin Butler officiating. The Funeral Mass will be Live Streamed on the Turner-Eighner Funeral Home & Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home Facebook pages. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL. Burial Services will be on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Somonauk, IL.
