Roberto Martinez

Roberto Martinez Sr., age 86, of Sandwich, IL passed away on Monday, January 6, 2020 at his home. He was born on March 11, 1933 In Torreon, Mexico the son of Roberto and Socorro (Galindo) Martinez.

Roberto was united in marriage on January 18, 1961 to the former Maria Galarza and they spent the next 46 happy years together until her passing on June 10, 2007. Mr. Martinez was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Plano, IL. Roberto was employed by Gord Plastics in Sandwich, IL until his retirement. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Maria McKinney of Sandwich, IL, Roberto (Lorena) Martinez Jr. of Seattle, WA, Victor (Nancy) Martinez of Plano, IL, Antonio (Estela) Martinez of Plano, IL, Guadalupe Martinez of Sandwich, IL, Guillermo (Maria) Martinez of Mexico, and Jose (Denise) Martinez of Plano, IL; his grandchildren, Javier (Maiya) Hernandez, Lorena (Carlo) Ramos, Roberto (Leeta) Martinez III, and Guadalupe, Clarisa, Jonathan, Guillermo A., Sonia, Anthony, Abraham, Oscar, Julian, Alina, Alexa, Jay, and Isaiah Martinez; his four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Leticia Salazar of Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roberto and Socorro Martinez; his daughter, Sonia Martinez; his granddaughter, Socorro Hernandez; and many siblings.

A Funeral Mass will take place at 12:00 PM on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1001 N. Center Ave., Plano, IL with Father Andy Davy M.I.C. officiating. Interment will follow in the Little Rock Township Cemetery in Plano, IL.

Friends may visit from 4:00 until 9:00 PM on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1010 W. South St., Plano, IL.
