Waubonsee Community College's D.J. Ellis was named the Region IV Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of February 10 through 16. The Chiefs' 6'1" point guard scored 55 points, handed out 19 assists and grabbed 17 rebounds combined in a pair of Waubonsee victories. Ellis shot 57 percent (20 of 35) from the floor, 60 percent (6 of 10) from three-point range and 90 percent (9 of 10) from the foul line.
Ellis tallied 26 points, dished out nine assists and snagged seven rebounds in a 95-75 win at Oakton Community College on Feb. 11. Two days later he recorded a triple-double by netting 29 points, hauling down 10 boards and passing out 10 assists in a 105-96 win over the College of Lake County.
The sophomore from North Aurora, Illinois is currently fourth among all NJCAA Division II players in assists per game (8.3) and total assists (240). Ellis has reached double digits in assists 10 times this season and is averaging a team-leading 15.7 points per game in helping the Chiefs post an overall record of 18-11 to go along with an 8-5 mark in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play.
