The Kaneland High School summer baseball team is off to a 8-3-1 start. Recently Kaneland defeated rival DeKalb in a double-header 7-2 and 3-0. Kaneland then dropped a close game to Coal City 6-3 on a cool, wet evening.
In the sweep of DeKalb Bryce Stair did not have an official-at-bat, but he scored 2 runs as he walked 3 times. Erik Teran and 2 hits and drove in a run for Kaneland, with Dylan Calabrese going 1-2 with 2 rbis. Jack McIntire, Tomas Shaw, Mikey Rogers and Aaron Glover each drove in a run. All of that was in game one that was won by the Knights 7-2. McIntire got the win as he struck out 4 and walked none, Erik Teran got the save.
Kaneland got some great pitching in the 3-0 shutout of DeKalb as Tyler Conklin struck out 8 and walked just one with three innings one hit baseball. Grant Williams also pitched well with 3 strikeouts and he allowed no hits. Derek Angelo had the only offense Kaneland would need with 2 rbi’s and Colton Humm had a double and scored twice.
Kaneland will take on rival Sycamore next in summer baseball play.
