Used personal protective equipment isn't recyclable. That's according to Bob Pfister with Advanced Disposal.

Pfister spoke to the Yorkville City Council about the city's waste habits Tuesday. Advanced Disposal handles the city's trash hauling. Food boxes, like from pizza or doughnuts, can't be put in the recycling either. Another mistake people make is trying to recycle plastic bags.

Other items that can't be recycled are batteries and hypodermic needles.

The city, until recently, has been decreasing its garbage amount.

Pfister says the recent increase in trash output makes sense.

Mayor John Purcell pointed out that a lower amount of garbage being produced could lead to lower rates in the future when the contract with Advanced Disposal is renegotiated.
