The Aurora City Council on Tuesday granted unanimous approval of Mayor Richard Irvin's pick to replace the retiring Chief Kristen Ziman. Last week, the mayor announced that he was nominating Deputy Chief Keith Cross to take over the job as top cop after Ziman's retirement next month. The city council also approved the mayor's choice for deputy chief of police Matt Thomas.
Cross is an Aurora native who graduated from East Aurora High School. He has served with the Aurora Police Department for 27 years. Thomas has been in law enforcement for 24 years.
Chief Ziman's last day on the job is August 6. The city will have a swearing in ceremony for Cross sometime in August now that he has city council approval.
