Another Republican is entering the race for Illinois Governor in 2022. On Monday, State Senator Darren Bailey announced he will seek the Republican nomination at an event in Effingham.
Bailey represents the 55th State Senate District which covers portions of Central and Southern Illinois. Bailey says people are fleeing from Illinois.
Bailey says people have an issue with politicians caring more about donors than the people they represent.
Bailey is proposing major spending cuts and would require government departments to justify spending.
Bailey is also saying that he would cut state income taxes.
Prior to being elected in November to the 55th State Senate District, Bailey represented the 109th Illinois House District. Bailey garnered attention around Illinois after he sued Governor Pritzker over emergency shutdown orders during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bailey was escorted out of an Illinois House session for refusing to wear a face mask in May.
Bailey is the third Republican to announce a run for governor including former State Senator Paul Schimpf and Gary Rabine.
