27-year-old Calvin Taylor, of Chicago, earlier this week took a plea deal for a twenty year sentence in Kane County court in a carjacking case. A judge accepted Taylor's guilty pleas on charges of armed violence and unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
In 2019, Taylor was arrested after crashing three cars which prosecutors say he stole earlier one right after the other. Taylor is said to have first stolen a vehicle at gunpoint from a man pumping gas in the 300 block of South Broadway Avenue in Aurora and later crashed the vehicle at Indian Trail and Lake Street. A passerby stopped and asked Taylor if he needed help. Prosecutors say Taylor jumped into the passerby's vehicle and sped off. He then crashed and rolled the vehicle near the entrance ramp to I-88 eastbound at Farnsworth Road. A woman in another vehicle that was involved in the second crash asked Taylor if needed help. Taylor is said to have stolen the woman's vehicle before fleeing onto the interstate. He later crashed again in Cook County and was arrested while trying to flee on foot.
Prosecutor's say the gun Taylor used was found in the first car that he crashed in Aurora.
Taylor is eligible for day-for-day time off for good behavior. He's served nearly two years in jail already. The Kane County State's Attorney's Office says Taylor is fortunate no one was hurt during his crime spree that put many people in danger.
